Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
  • Add the warm water and olive oil to the bowl, and mix everything together until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about an hour until it has doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and roll each one out into a flat circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place the pita bread rounds on a baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes until they have puffed up and turned golden brown.
  • Remove the pita bread from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
